I went over to the DigitalOxford opening event last night at Oxford’s Modern Art Museum, and happened to speak to mysociety.org, the Oxford-based company behind some great websites like theyworkforyou.com and writetothem.com.
It reminded me of a website I wrote in 2011 where I took some data that the Oxfordshire County Council were publishing and made it in to a much more usable format. I found that old code out and added a few extras.
For a while now, OCC have published all expenses paid out that are over £500 – but they do so via CSV files which almost nobody will end up looking at.
The site I made is fairly simple and just has a few point-and-click reports where you can see expenses grouped by things like supplier, or type – as well as see how they spend and what they spend on per month.
If I get time I will add some more options to the reports so you can drill down in to the data, specify a date range, search for specific suppliers or services etc – but for now, please let me know what you think and if this is worth pursuing.
The database currently contains records from November 2011 to December 2014. I will try to keep things up to date as they release more data.
